You will start to love to do your laundry!

Most people dread having to do chores like laundry. Laundry just never ends. You know the feeling, there will always be another load to throw in, especially if you have teenage kids!

I use to use what ever was on sale at the grocery store. That was before I learned about all of the toxins in our store-bought brands and before I discovered Melaleuca products. Now one of my new favorite products is Melapower.

Melapower leaves my laundry SO FRESH and CLEAN, and it’s AMAZING how little it takes compared to the amount needed of other brands. It’s an amazing product and every household, especially moms should be using this product for their children, its safe and smells amazing and leaves your clothes fresh, and crisp! One of the things that I really like about the Melaleuca products, is that they contain no chlorine bleach, ammonia or formaldehyde.

With an ultra-concentrated, environmentally friendly formula, Melalueca’s Melapower 6x concentrated laundry detergent gives you 6 times more loads of pure cleaning power in every small bottle compared to up to 3 fl. oz. per wash load of the leading brands. You won’t have to worry about running out any time soon either. You’ll spend less money on a basic monthly expense. You’ll throw away less plastic. You’ll provide your family with clean, bright, and fresh laundry in every load. And you’ll have a clean conscience, knowing you’re bringing no toxic chemicals into your home or your washing machine. You really can have all that in a single detergent. Here’s how,  Melapower cleans messes in just one wash. How wonderful is that!

What makes Melapower so different from the store-bought big brands, like Tide, or Fab for example?  Those brands have a lot of extra water added to them. When you buy 2x concentrated detergents, you’re paying a premium for bottled water and bigger packaging. However, with  Melapower 6x, you’re only paying for highly concentrated cleaning power, and then you let your washing machine add the water for you.

Melapower also keeps dirt from resettling on clothes. If your detergent can’t keep dirt from resettling on your clothes, they will just get duller and dingier. With its proprietary Rinse Guard formula, MelaPower 6x keeps dirt away from clothes until it’s rinsed away, letting colors and whites stay bright and vibrant wash after wash. Melapower also does not contain silica, which most other detergents contain. The silica will wear down your clothes as well. One thing I noticed immediately when I first started using the Melapower was hardly any lint.

Melapower is also safer for your home. If you use toxic chemicals on your family’s clothes, they’ll wear out sooner, and sometimes  you may even have a negative skin reaction. Melapower 6x uses NO toxic chemicals. Instead, the naturally derived MelaPower 6x formula is pH-neutral and as gentle on clothes as tap water. You can use MelaPower 6x on any machine-washable fabrics.

Melapower saves you plenty of money. With more loads per bottle than 2x Ultra Tide, Melaleuca’s Melapower 6x can save you up to $53 over buying one of the most well-known national brands. What’s more, because Melapower 6x works in cold water, you save even more in energy costs.

Additionally, Melapower saves plenty of plastic. Did you know that if every Melaleuca customer in North America switched to Melapower 6x, we could save about 1.2 million pounds of plastic each year? That’s the equivalent of 800 million laundry baskets! That is pretty incredible!

Melapower is also reusable and recyclable. Thanks to its ultra-concentrated formula and smaller bottle size, Melapower 6x simply means you’ll use less plastic. For example, our reusable drain-back caps and pumps only measure out ½ fl. oz. at a time. Compare that to the larger, disposable cap for Tide® laundry detergent, sized to dole out 1.5 to 2 fl. oz. or more for each load.

Preventing Holiday Disaster!

Give the Gift of Peace of Mind

The last thing you need during the holidays is to have a disaster with food or fires.

Here are a few quick tips to help.

I know it is tempting because the colors are so festive, but really try to  avoid serving salads and drinks that contain red, orange, purple or green food colorings.  But if you really can’t help yourself, keep a fresh bottle of hydrogen peroxide handy. Mix it 50/50 with water in spray bottle. Fill a second bottle with 1 part distilled white vinegar and 4 parts water. Spray red wine or food dye stains immediately with the peroxide/water mixture. Let it set 5 minutes then rinse with the vinegar/water solution to neutralize the effects of peroxide. Persian, silk or wool carpets or area rugs should be professionally cleaned.
Don’t forget to clean the chimneys and flues to prevent fires.  Also, don’t over look cleaning the furnace ducts as they have also been know to catch fire.
Always place a holder under candles. Never move a burning candle or one that has just been blown out. Hot wax leaves a nasty 3rd degree burn and stains that resist removal.
Keep a current fire extinguisher close at hand. Know how to use it! Any extinguisher more than 4 years old should be examined to make sure it’s in working condition.
Purchase a couple of white plastic table cloths if pets or young children are coming to dinner. Place them upside down on beds, furniture or the floor where they will be sleeping, playing or sitting. The fuzzy side helps catch spills or accidents and the plastic side prevents the liquid from absorbing into the surface. Purchase a bottle of Nature’s Miracle at the pet store to remove urine odor and stain from any surface – safely without toxic chemicals. Dilute  CleanEz to remove the rest of the stains like food, grease, oil and dirt.
Keep a lid on the counter to place over a pan should it catch fire. Tuck a bag of wet terry towels in a plastic bag under the kitchen sink. They put out kitchen fires faster than baking soda and quickly clean up spills.
You’ll find Mary Moppins mop to be one of the handiest gadgets not only for the holidays but year round. These mops use ordinary terry towels to mop floors or dust cobwebs or even dry off RVs or boats. They last for years to save hundreds of dollars buying mop head replacements. Why not give yourself or someone else the gift of time this year? They cut cleaning time up to 80%!

Dirty Cleaning Products!

I was surfing the internet looking for information to share with those of you out there. I found this article on a site I like a lot called Women’s Voices for the Earth and it made me so made I knew I had to share it with you.
So basically what the good ladies at WVE are saying is that the cleaning product companies are scamming us the public, by telling us that in order for us to keep our homes clean and smelling fresh, we need to rely on an army of cleaning and air care products. Sprays, wipes, powders, liquids and more are sold with the promise of improving your home and your health by removing dirt and germs. More often than not, these products are also infused with fragrance to add a pleasant sensory experience to your everyday chores and to give your home that “clean” and “fresh” smell of lemon or pine forests. It all sounds great, and I know I bought into this “story” for years, until I started researching information for my own company.

So what companies are not telling us is that cleaning products can contain toxic chemicals that may harm your health. Manufacturers often recommend frequent and repeated use of their products, but this also translates to frequent and repeated exposures to potentially harmful chemicals. You may inhale these chemicals by breathing indoor air and some of them can be absorbed through the skin. Long-term exposures to certain chemicals found in household cleaners have been linked to serious health problems like pregnancy complications, breast cancer, birth defects, asthma and allergic reactions.

In the report, Dirty Little Secrets, posted on Women’s Voices for the Earth (WVE) they discuss how they commissioned an independent laboratory to test twenty popular cleaning products for hidden toxic chemicals from five top companies: Clorox, Procter & Gamble, Reckitt Benckiser, SC Johnson and Son, and Sunshine Makers (Simple Green). Products tested included all-purpose cleaners, laundry detergents, dryer sheets, air fresheners, disinfectant sprays, and furniture polish. While previous reports by WVE (Household Hazards, 2007 and Disinfectant Overkill, 2009) examined the hazards of harmful chemicals whose presence had been disclosed by manufacturers, this report exposes toxic chemicals that companies are keeping secret from consumers.
I think this is just shameful, all in the name of making some profits!

What the folks at WVE found is that some products contained reproductive toxins such as toluene and phthalates, carcinogens like 1,4-dioxane and chloroform, and a hormone disrupting synthetic musk. Several known allergens were also detected in these products, the highest levels of which appeared in fragranced air fresheners. Allergens were found in products marketed as fragrance-free.

None of these chemicals were listed on the product’s label.!!

This analysis represents a snapshot of the hidden chemicals found in popular cleaning products from five leading manufacturers. The results demonstrate that consumers do not have all of the ingredient information they need to select safe cleaning products. Consumers deserve to know what chemicals they are being exposed to, so that they can easily avoid products that may cause allergic reactions or serious long-term health impacts like cancer, birth defects, or infertility.

This report underscores the need for Congress to pass federal legislation that requires cleaning product manufacturers to disclose all the ingredients they use in their products directly on the product label.
Ask your Representative to co-sponsor the Cleaning Product Right to Know Act to require companies to list all ingredients on the label.

Hello Police – I think My Household Cleaning Products Are Trying to Kill Me

Hello Police – I think My Household Cleaning Products Are Trying to Kill Me

American advertisers have us all believe our homes are filled with germs and disease so we should be cleaning our homes and disinfecting them all of the time. They tell us of new and improved products which will protect our families’ health by killing germs on every surface we touch. Unfortunately, what the advertisers do not tell us is that our cleaning products contain chemicals that may actually be harmful to our health.

This is dangerous for all of us, but especially for women and children since certain chemicals in cleaning products has been linked to reproductive harm like reduced fertility, birth defects, and increased risk of breast cancer, asthma and respiratory disorders, and hormone disruption.

In addition, no law requires cleaning product companies to list all the ingredients in their products on the label, meaning companies can keep toxic chemicals a secret from you. You should be able to look on the product label to avoid certain chemicals if you wish to, just as you can with food and personal care products.

The bottom line is that products you clean your home with shouldn’t contain toxic ingredients in the first place.

Here are a few interesting facts:

…Women today are still doing 70% of the housework in the average home.

…The cleaning industry in the US employs about 3.4 million cleaning workers, of this number; women comprise about 90% of all maids and household cleaners.

…Children are often more vulnerable to chemicals because their organs and immune systems are not yet fully developed and certain chemicals may interfere with the development of their neurological, endocrine and immune systems.

Many kitchen cleaner have chemicals that can prove hazardous to young children. Triclosan, a common component of  anti bacterial cosmetics, has been found to weaken the immune system. Scientists have reason to believe that children who regularly use Triclosan containing soaps may have little resistance to ward off infections in later life.

Many popular toilet cleaner brands react with bleach to give off chlorine gas which is toxic. Regular use of these products results in several health problems that may or may not be curable.

Also, many people find that they develop skin problems from using traditional chemical based cleaning products. Accidentally spilling some strong cleaners on your hands or face could result in serious consequences. Sensitive organs like the eyes may sustain permanent damage from such spillage. Inhaling the fumes of some chemical based cleaners leads to respiratory problems even in healthy adults. Small children or those with existing respiratory issues may be affected very badly indeed.

The bottom line is that we know very little about the long term health impacts of chronic exposure to chemicals in household cleaning products. While additional studies are needed in order to fully ascertain the safety of using these cleaning supplies over the course of a lifetime, the potential health impacts associated with exposure to certain chemicals present a significant cause for concern.

Going green when looking for household cleaners or cleaning supplies for your office and home is a good way to ensure that you avoid all of these problems. This ensures your good health and that of people around you. In addition, you can also make sure that you are not responsible for polluting your environment any further by allowing toxic residues to escape into the atmosphere or mix with the underground water table through your drainage system. Remember that every time that you use a toxic cleaner you add more pollutants to your surroundings that ultimately affect your quality of life. Start using eco friendly cleaning productstoday to make a real difference to the world.

Be Green While Getting Your Clothes White

http://greenscenecompany.wordpress.com/wp-admin/media-upload.php?post_id=56&type=image&TB_iframe=1

How to get your Clothes White (and still be green)

I hate it when you wash your “whites” and they look dingy even though you are using bleach.  Plus bleach is so unhealthy!!! So you know what I learned? You should take the bleach to the toxic waste dump and switch to hydrogen peroxide or borax.  Can you believe it? Bleach actually yellows clothes and causes them to look a dingy color. This is especially noticable with white clothes.

Let’s first remove the dingy color from white clothes. Add one-half to 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide per regular washer. For top loading machines: Begin filling your washer adding your organic, earth friendly laundry detergent. Add your clothes and allow the washer to finish filling. Turn off the washer and let the clothes soak for 30 minutes then finish washing the load.

For front loading machines, add the peroxide to the liquid soap dispenser and follow the same directions for top loading machines.

Basic laundering 101: Start filling your washer with water (not for front loading machines.) Add your detergent and peroxide then the clothes. The detergent can’t clean unless it dissolves.

If you are having problems with your clothing not coming clean one reason could be your detergent.  Did you know that most  powdered detergents contain saw dust as a filler? This can  cause your skin to itch, to name but a few problems caused by sawdust. It is impossible to get clothing clean with sawdust.  Duh! These detergents also contain phosphorus, which many cities are now banning due to the toxic problems phosphorus causes marine life.

Switch to a certified green detergent that contains no fillers and your laundry day blues will end. Liquid detergents still contain fillers, so they are just as ineffective as powdered detergents.

Fill your washing machine only three-fourths full with clothes. Clothes clean by the agitating action amongst themselves. Crowd them and they can’t come clean. Pre-treat stains with CleanEz diluted 20 parts water to 1 part CleanEz. It’s far less expensive than ready to use prewash sprays and is 100 times more effective.

Fabric softeners are expensive and costly to our environment. Switch to food grade distilled white vinegar. It softens clothes and removes detergent so your skin won’t itch. Add one-half cup where you normally put your fabric softener.

Remember heat sets stains. Don’t dry clothes unless the stain is gone.
